The Dixie Chicks
If I ever had a Love - Hate relationship its with the Dixie Chicks. When its not political, I love their music, but I also hate their politics.
They had the potential to be one of the top Country music bands of all time. Hits like "Earl" and "Sin Wagon" were on every ones lips. Then they had to go and open their mouths with something besides music coming out. Now they are one of the fastes falling Country groups ever. Their fall from grace couldn't have been any faster then if they had come out and said that Patsy Cline and Hank Williams were homosexuals.
It all started when Natalie said some disparaging things about our President. Not a sin we all have opinions and we are allowed to share them. But she did it at a concert, probably wouldn't have been that bad but it was in a foreign country. You don't air your families problems with strangers, she did. That was strike one. Concert sales slumped, album sales bottomed out.
Next was the verbal battle with the other Country stars that did support our President and the War, like Toby Keith. That battle was also waged on the Chicks part on the national scene. The others stars had no chioce but to retaliate. Strike two for the Chicks, the other guys were more popular and the fans ralied behind them.
The Chicks then took some needed time off an hid.
Well they are back....
A new album came out and they thought they would be slick and instead of coming out and blasting our government they hid the messages in the songs, unfortunately the Country music world was smarter than they thought and picked up on it, sales are way below expectations, only a little over a million sold.
And lastly, strike three, they sold out their Country music audiance. They came out on National TV and stated that were going for a new more sophisticated audiance, they were going for the pop music fans. Slap in the face to Country Music fans. As the old saying goes, stay with the horse that got you to the race. They didn't. They have had to cancel over forty concerts because of lowticket sales.
Now I will admit I still have a Dixie Chick CD, made before they were political, I thought about breaking it, but I had already bought it and they had already made money on it, so I kept it. Will I ever buy another one? HECK NO!!! Will I ever watch another of their videos? HECK NO!!! Will I go to a concert? HECK NO! Lets let them fade away and send a message to other "celebrities" stay with what you do, act, sing, dance, juggle, etc but leave the politics to those that do it for a living.
As the Chicks said in that famous song of thiers, "Good By Earl" no one will miss you!
